Lumen Policy
Introduction
Lumen is a Discord bot used exclusively in the Unreal Engine Discord server to provide moderation and utility features. This policy explains what data Lumen processes, why, and how it is handled.
Scope
Lumen is not a public bot and operates only inside the Unreal Engine Discord server.
Data Processing
Lumen processes limited Discord data strictly for functionality and moderation:
A. Messages:
Message content (text)
Attached or linked images
Used for:Scam detection (text pattern matching)
Image similarity checks
OCR based text detection in images
Triggering automated warnings (e.g., “dm me” in specific forums)
B. Voice Channel Data
Channel ownership (creator of private VC)
Allowed/denied user IDs
Used only to manage private voice channel access.
How the Data Is Used
Lumen uses data only to operate the following features:
Scam Detection
Messages and images are scanned using pattern matching, image similarity, and OCR to identify common scam content.Moderation Safety Actions
When scam content is detected, Lumen may:Timeout the user
Delete the message
Send a DM explaining what happened
Utility Features
Creating and managing private voice channels
Sending automated responses to common questions
Warning users about risky behavior (e.g., “dm me” prompts)
Lumen does not use data for profiling, advertising, training or analytics unrelated to server moderation.
Data Storage
Most message scanning is processed in real time.
Known scam image hashes may be stored in a database of known scam patterns.
Logs of moderation-related actions (e.g., detected scams, timeouts) may be stored for staff review and abuse prevention.
Lumen does not intentionally store full message histories beyond what is required for moderation logs.
Data Sharing
Data processed by Lumen is:
Not sold
Not shared with third parties
Access to moderation logs and detection systems is limited to:
Bot operators
Limited server staff
User Control
Because Lumen operates as part of server moderation:
Users cannot opt out of automated moderation scanning while participating in the server.
If a user believes Lumen acted incorrectly, they can contact server staff by creating a ticket on the server.
